Kid's Room - A Tour

I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year, let this year be full of great blessings and happiness.

Today is the first post for this blog. I would like to write about how I decorated my kid's room.

We live in a two bedroom town home in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our home is warm, compact and cozy for family of two three now four.  We started arranging and rearranging the house so many times to get the current functionality. The rooms have evolved from the time we had lived here as couple to now. When we had the first child, we had room to accommodate crib, diaper pile, cot, ottoman & chair. As the years went by, the house got filled in with my son's toys, toys and more toys. When we were ready to welcome the second one, we realized that we had outgrown the house.  With a tight budget and little time in hand, we bought the right stuffs from Ikea and rearranged the space.

Today I am sharing pictures of our kid's room.

We have placed queen size bed as one of us end up sleeping with the kids. It is also the bed grandparents use when they visit us.The newborn sleeps in the crib. My son and I sleep in the bed. Yes, we still co-sleep with him. I have no issues on that. That's how I was raised and I turned out to be fine - strong and independent.  Survived and still surviving in this world!

The walls are decorated with stuffs I bought from Dollar Tree and Baby Depot. The shapes, manners chart, animal pictures & colors and planets on the ceiling were picked for a dollar each from Dollar Tree. The glow in the dark stars stuck in the ceiling are from Michaels, again I got them on a discount. I bought a huge carton of glue from Home Depot in 2011 and I am still using it. Other stuffs were picked between $2-$6 price range from Baby Depot. I look for items under clearance and work my design around it .I was looking to make the room more attractive, colorful, educative and entertaining for my son. He could identify shapes, animals, colors by the time he was 12-15 months.

The clothes are tucked inside the mirror doors. Few of my son's art and craft materials are placed in a box under the crib. Some are kept in Kusiner Wall pockets ($3.99 at Ikea). Overall the room is functional and little spacious to move around. When he turned two, we bought a chalkboard from Ross ($19.99). He now recognizes and spells two and three letter words.

We bought the crib for $25 from Big Lots. It was under clearance and in good shape; it was sturdy and had few scratches as it was the display piece. We spent a good fortune on Naturepedic Organic Cotton Lightweight Classic2-stage crib mattress from Babies-r-us ($289.99). The wall borders are from Babies-r-us and we went with farm animal themed crib set as it can be used for both genders (boy and girl).  We invested $129.98 on Storkcraft Bowback Glider Rocker and Ottoman from Walmart. To save space, we added a wall mount fan. A basic model from Home Depot.

I hope you guys enjoyed touring Katli and Kulfi's room.
